Take Time
Tell your children they can be anything they want
in life.
Your voice will always be in the back of their
head. Let the words they hear to be those of
encouragement
Ask them what they admire about themselves, and add
your own observations.
Include stories about their character that makes you
proud.
Keep a distraction free zone when together: No
phones, or hand held games.
Nothing can be more hurtful to a child then feeling
less important then a phone call or text message.
The same is true for parents feeling ignored and
unappreciated while a child focuses on device during
conversation.
Express yourself by remembering to tell your own
ah-ha moments.
You were a kid once too! Tell stories from when you
were unsure, worried, or otherwise, and how you
overcame those obstacles. This will help your child
to see you as human and not always perfect.
Trust that you have provided your children with the
right tools.
If you trust your children, they will trust
themselves. If you don’t trust them, they will
wonder what you see that they don’t, and may begin
destructive behavior since their character has been
harmed.
Independent of others create a monthly night out
together. This night is about doing what your child
wants to do with you. It’s imperative that you be
unguarded and open during this time so you can have
fun together. Do not intermingle this night with
errands, or cancel unless it’s an emergency. Make
this night a tradition, and you will continue to
create memories for years to come.
Make sure your words inspire their spirit at all
times. Most of us can remember a negative comment
from our parents. Use your words for their benefit
not their detriment. If you feel you have said
something in stride, apologize, and say it was not
true.
Empower them to take opportunities that come their
way. The most successful people in the world say yes
to opportunities before they disappear forever.
Encourage your children to develop a habit of taking
opportunities.
